Media and information education (EMI) aims to train students to exercise their citizenship in an information society. This education, which is not limited to any specific academic discipline, faces challenges due to its multifaceted approach and the rapid evolution of media. The article provides an overview of EMI within the French education system, including its history and contemporary issues. It also mentions a university diploma in EMI that will be launched at Lyon-1 University, along with an experimental training for trainee teachers aimed at developing innovative and transferable teaching practices in the classroom. EMI is presented as a response to the challenges of an age where students must navigate a complex media landscape, thereby acquiring essential critical skills for their role as cybercitizens.
