LA RÉOUVERTURE DE LA BBF • 2023-2
18/10/2024
The Jacques-Doucet Literary Library (BLJD), heir to the legacy of the couturier Jacques Doucet, has recently reopened to the public after a crisis period. Located at the University of Paris, this library stands out for its collections rich in manuscripts, rare books, and works of art, primarily focused on poetry and the literary movements of the 20th century, especially around André Gide and Surrealism. Despite its wealth, the library has faced media criticism regarding its collection management, with allegations of document disappearances and whispers of illicit sales. This led to an administrative closure in October 2022 by the rector of Paris. Today, with a renewed team and the support of an expert report, the BLJD aims to leverage its heritage while addressing the challenges of preserving its invaluable collections.
